Mafalda (http://www.onehouseartists.com/roster/Mafalda) is one of those DJ=
s you stumble across and instantly fall in love with.
Originally from Portugal=2C Mafalda grew up listening to music and started=
to learn English from her father aged 5 so that she could translate Pet S=
hop Boys lyrics. She moved to London two years ago and immersed herself in=
London's music scene - first inspired by seeing Sadar Bahar and Floating=
Points play together at Corsica Studios=2C she became a regular at the la=
tter's Plastic People party and early You're a Melody parties.
Jump forward to 2017 and Mafalda is running Melodies International (https:=
//www.melodiesinternational.com/) with Sam Shepherd (aka Floating Points)=
which is rapidly becoming one of the most highly regarded reissue labels=
out there. She's also organising the You're A Melody parties - from humbl=
e beginnings at Plastic People the most recent in the series took place at=
St John-At-Hackney in East London with Antal=2C Mafalda=2C Red Greg and F=
loating Points playing Soul=2C Gospel=2C Brazilian and Jazz Dance to over=
1000 people. Resident Advisor's Stephen Titmus wrote in his review that "=
as the final record played out [...] it was hard to shake the feeling tha=
t this party had been something truly special." In 2017 the You're A Melod=
y party will travel around the world.
Aside from digging=2C licensing and re-releasing some of the best lost rec=
ords from the last century=2C Mafalda frequently appears on NTS (she origi=
nally appeared on the show on numerous occasions to cover for FloPo while=
he was touring abroad)=2C on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM and is tourin=
g much of Europe in 2017.
